Uneasy Listening

Heed my words, dear readers: This will either instantly become one of your favorite things or you will loathe it. It's that simple. Z-Trip and DJ P have created with Uneasy Listening Volume 1 a massive cauldron of cheap, archaic break beats and mash ups of pop music from the '80s, all cleverly done and pieced together flawlessly. Bits of Madonna, The Police, Midnight Oil, Metallica, Ratt, and a host of other 1980s MTV regulars are rearranged into a DaDaist stream of conscience salad sprinkled with shimmery cocaine badness. This came out in 2001. As far as I know, a volume 2 has yet to be unleashed. If you're out there Z-Trip and DJ P, hurry up and bring me more waffles!

  1. I LOVE this kind of shit. Almost as much as I love cover versions.

A question regarding Ludicra, what's YOUR favourite album? You may have said in an earlier post, but my memory... like a sandwich.

  2. All of the juxtapositions on this record are listenable, a few are clever, and one is genius.
If the Mash-up/Bastard Pop dream is to create a sum greater than its parts, then the Pharcyde/Pat Benatar succeeds in doing the seemingly impossible.

  6. DJ P is from where I am at, Springfield, Missouri...although I think he took off to LA or something a while back. This album is okay but I think some of his solo stuff is better, and for this kind of thing, honestly I think GirlTalk does it better than anybody I have ever heard.

  7. I remember dj p. Accidentally, i hung out with him a bit in st louis, missouri a few years back. When we were on the street every time he'd see a black person with dreadlocks or baggy pants he'd approach them and talk to them about his style. At the time he sported Ricki Rocket's late 90's hairdo. He looked like a small town housewife. He used to spin really bad pop music at frat boy clubs in Springbilly, Mo.

  10. my computer works again! i burned this onto cd without hearing it so i could listen to something on the way to my awesome new job and the sun was shining warm after it snowed this morning and i didn't have a terrible cold anymore and this made me laugh and grin on the way there, it made me wish that it was actually a radio station so i wouldn't be annoyed with myself for liking some of the songs they were using. it is good to read you again
