Soul Discharge

I bought this based on the cover alone knowing nothing of this band. I was floored, it was like if The Butthole Surfers were better dressed and Japanese. When they came to San Francisco a few years later, Matty Luv and I went to see them at the Kennel Club. After the show we were in a state of shock, what the fuck had we just seen? We sat in foggy Alamo Square park talking about music and art until the sun came up , and then we formed a band, That band was Hickey. And that concludes my Paul Harvey style monologue.

  4. When I was a young teenager, I wrote to a member of the band Unwound, I think to order a fanzine or something. He wrote back and asked what the scene was like in my town, mentioning "I like The Boredoms and Joy Division." Soon after, I found this album on cassette, totally overlooked in our crappy local record store. Boy did playing that the first time blow my mind! Good Day!

  7. A fantastic classic indeed ... anyone who digs Boredoms must remember the fist time they heard and/or saw them live ... anyone who doesn't dig 'em most likely won't ever forget either ... yeah man, downloaded those (Regan Youth, Eye&Chew, Alle Totmachen)again ... still same problem ... downloaded this ... it worked ... internet voodoo I guess ... creepy!

  8. Brilliant choice, this piece of work changed my life upon hearing. Simply beyond reason. POP TATARI is another amazing release by them.

  11. Whoa, I can just look at this cover and go "weeep-ah...Huuwoyaa! wee-aaa! Weeee wrrrillll rock eewwwyaoou! eeewwwoyou!"

The Boredoms/Pain Teens/Brutal Truth show @ One Step Beyond at the top of my "why the fuck did I miss that?" list. (Answer: it was 'cause of finals).

In late '91, I once formed a "band" with some fellow KSJS DJs where I played this LP backwards, another band member screamed and jangled car keys, a Throbbing Gristle dirge was on the CD player and Dead Can Dance was on the tape player all mixed together at once. Palle, the DJ who hosted the dark/experimental music show christened our band T.B.D. - Totally Brain Dead and the piece was called "Megamix". He played it on his show a few days later which was Halloween night. Although, I never transferred the damn thing to CD and lost the master reel when moving.

  12. If this inspired Hickey, I can't wait to see what inspired Yogurt.

Unless you've posted that already, I'm not very observant.

  16. I saw the Boredoms/Painteens/Brutal Truth gig in LA. It seems a lot of people have "My First Boredoms" stories. I couldn't believe how tight and choreographed they were. The records seemed chaotic to me, but were in fact quite blueprinted. The two drum kits with the common crash cymbal was killer. Shane Embury was in the house there at the fabulous Club Lingerie !
