Oak

During our Baltimore stop on the recent Ludicra tour I was fortunate enough to meet Joe of the band Oak. He was kind enough to kick me a vinyl copy of their debut LP. Of course the cover was enticing enough with it's strange psychedelic kraut rocky cover, but I had no fucking idea how utterly devastating the tuneage inside was. Crusty, stripped-down, sludgy doom, earthen, spacious and absolutely great. They have promised to tour soon, go see them.

  2. Beauitful cover, I agree. Hopefully they will tour somewhere in Europe so Nik and I can travel around to see them (like we do with Agalloch).

What is with you guys and Oaks ;)

  3. Moonshine is an equally great band from Baltimore. I think from the same family....

  4. Hell yeah, been a fan of Oak for a while now. If you dig these guys, Aesop, check out the vocalist's previous band "Wake Up On Fire"- Crusty sludge with cello and two drummers

  9. Very cool. I was one of the 2 drummers for Wake up on fire.
Oak rules. Moonshine rules. Aesop rules.

  10. I figured this might be associated with Wake Up On Fire/Moonshine. Moonshine played at my old house with Plaguewielder. Good Baltimore folks.

  11. Thanks a lot for this Aesop I've wanted to order a copy of this for myself but cash has been crazy tight lately.

I'm hopefully gonna have enough scratch to catch Ludicra at Gilman st on the tenth since I've wanted to see you guys live forever and the only time you played the east coast was like a week after I moved to CA.

    Anyhow, cheers

  12. Moz, you should buy it for the beautiful gatefold, and to support this brilliant band. We don't want people thinking blogs like this cause people to not buy albums.

  13. Believe me, it is on the very TOP of my list and has been for a minute. I plan to grab a copy as soon as finding a quarter on the floor of my room doesn't seem like I just hit the fucking jackpot.
