R.I.P. Joris

Just received some unfortunate news. It would seem that Joris of the Woodsmoke family (specifically münn) passed away back in September. Some other members of the Woodsmoke clan set about to making this recording, a project called Körkarlen, to honor his memory. They were very gracious to pass this along to me with the following explanation:

This album was recorded upon receiving word of Joris' death and exists as his audial wake. It represents the soul leaving the body and expanding infinitely beyond the dimensional fabrics of Kosmos which comprise linear time, transcending the Void and attaining conscious non-duality within Infinity.

I sincerely thank the Woodsmoke folks for choosing The Hearse as the means to share this very special work for their fallen comrade. I wish them all the best, and hope they can move forward past this tragedy, and continue to make great and meaningful art. I know many of you were fiending for some more Woodsmoke noise, shame it had to come under these circumstances.

  5. So sad to hear. I've really enjoyed all the Woodsmoke stuff you've shared on Cosmic Hearse, never was able to pick any of it up since it went so fast. My condolences to his family and friends.

  7. This is really some great music, by the way. It's as if Loren Connors recorded a solo guitar black metal album.

  9. This is an amazing tribute. I have had the honor of playing at Burial Grounds for the past couple of summers, and would like to express my deepest condolences to all who knew Joris.
Also, thank you Aesop for your support of FV and Sleepwalker, your blog has always been one of my favorites.

  16. It's a shame when anyone passes, especially one with the talent that I seem to cling too. This is a really good tape, sounds kind of like Soleil Noir, from the same label, had something to do with it.

  17. One of the greatest people I have ever known, loved and lost.
It's been pretty rough for us all, but people here tend to cope well with the grayer side of life.
Me and Jory had talked about setting up an acoustic hitch hiking/train hopping tour of the west coast, but pieces didn't fall fast enough into place and now no more. Shame
    Good night Joris,
Your songs eternally loop in my thoughts, and are at home in my soul.
