War Cry


Shataan are a part of the extremely interesting Black Twilight Circle, but they may be the least Black Metal of the lot, the sound here is more akin to Hearse favorites Mighty Sphincter (R.I.P. Joe.) Shataan take the BTC's fascination with indigenous culture a bit further starting this oddball artifact with a flute laden instrumental called "Trail of Tears." This tape is a truly strange and engaging piece of work that didn't leave my deck for weeks.

    I think the thing that annoyed me most about the Liturgy internet nonsense was that, while he's just writing boring bookworm black metal and using big words to make it seem interesting, you've got people like the Black Twilight Circle that are actually doing something to give Black Metal its own distinctive western hemisphere flavor. My personal favorite from these kids is Arizmenda, but the mention of flutes has me keen to hear this.

    Fuck off transcendental thesis.

    Dude sick. Also reminds me a bit of SF's Red Temple Spirits--weird psych-y deathrock with a Native American vibe (though they were white dudes). Are you into them?

    Awesome! Between them and Savage Republic it sounds like 80s SF had a really bizarre post-punk scene. I'd like to learn more about it.
