Tears wet the coffin dust
Mourning stains the wooden lid
Through the sadness and depression
I awoke in the stone cold grave
Weird glow in the vault around me
Sargeist is an exceptional Black Metal band from Finland comprised of members of both Horna and Behexen. Satanic Black Devotion is the band's first full-length release. Sargeist manage to be very kult and very sincere in their approach with enough variation in their songs to keep it interesting. Sometimes I feel like this may be the only Black Metal album I need.
Hell, I was listening to this just yesterday and wondering if you'd ever give it a nod. It's solid, sometimes strange, sometimes punky. Great album.
ReplyDeleteAlways been a bit more of a Horna fan, and you gotta admit Envaatnags Eflos Solf Esgantaavne is such a great album, but Sargeist is very enjoyable as well. I read recently Horna is touring the US later this fall. Just as soon as they hit NYC I'll be there waiting!
ReplyDeleteI am only familiar with Horna's first album, which is fantastic. Sargeist is a bit more humble in their approach which appeals to me more. Sadly, if Horna makes it to SF (I have my doubts) it will be on Halloween and my band will be playing somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteI really hope they manage to get over here for this tour but I somewhat share your worries. After Mayhem canceled their US tour and then Blasphemer left the band and Dissection canceling their tour and Jon killing himself I've experienced several rather severe disappointments with my hopes of seeing European black metal bands. At least I've been able to see Watain, Emperor and Immortal over the last year or so but fucking goddammit I would have LOVED to have seen Mayhem live. I enjoy everything they've done from Deathcrush right upto Ordo Ad Chao.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this one. I am not much of a black metal guy, but I recently stumbled upon the LP Pimeyden Hehku by Horna and it really impressed me, so I've been trying to find everything I can that is Horna related.
ReplyDeleteHey Aesop,
ReplyDeleteBen West from Oaken Throne here. Its about time I left you a comment. Such a great blog!!!!
Been making mix cdrs that I play at work and putting tons of titles on my "must acquire" list.
Great to see us sharing column inches in the current Believer mag. Must Bay Area Black Metal respect in there!!!
I'll be out in SF over the weekend of Aug 9th. Maybe I'll get lucky and Ludicra will be playing a show?
Hey Ben, long time no see. What is this Believer you speak of? August 12th see Ludicra and Wolves In The Throne Room at Slims. I can put you on the list if you are in town.
ReplyDeleteNice one! Thanks alot. Actually I found your blog while searching for info on Jarma, The Second Coming. I saw it's in your wishlist and, to get to the point: I'll get the record in a couple of days and will try to share it somehow.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Dag
Wow, Dag. Thanks. I appreciate that. Been looking for that for some time.
ReplyDeleteGood fucking album! It definetely has some punk influence in there, it's a head banger....
ReplyDeleteHoly fuck this is good.
ReplyDeleteThis totally owns. Great stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this scorcher.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be more comments for this album because it's perfect. Thanks again for sharing this.
