Fly People Fly

Maybe when you think of The Scorpions you think of "Rock Me Like a Hurricane," balding krauts, and striped spandex moose knuckle. Maybe you just fell out of your momma's ass too. Maybe you are too young and green to know that before all that dumb shit, The Scorpions were one of the coolest hard rock bands of the '70s. Maybe you don't even know about how they had on their team a foppish Teutonic guitarbarian by the name of Uli Roth who was just a bit fucking loony, but had style and licks and chops for days. Maybe you don't know that this album, Fly To The Rainbow (along with In Trance) is just overflowing with outstanding songs. Maybe nobody ever told you how precious and deep Fly To The Rainbow truly is, and that saddens me.

Oh, and tomorrow night, Uli plays in San Francisco and I am going.

  5. I gotta say that I am not really big on Lonesome Crow. This one, In Trance, Virgin Killers, and sometimes Taken By Force are all I need.

  6. I love this album so. And I am bummed that I can't make the show tomorrow night because it is just too damned expensive for my ass.

as a completely idiotic aside, my captcha is "pusssyw" which just made me laugh somewhat inappropriately.

  7. Yes, it's expensive but Uli at Anies? C'mon. Plus this special super secret guest opener they keep dangling in front of me. Don't be a pussyw!

Duuuuude, Laibach on thursday around the corner from my house.

  8. There's the whole UFO connection with Michael Schenker on Lonesome Crow. I don't think he made another appearence until 79 on Lovedrive but you can definitely hear the similarities in the bands. But yeah, oddly enough the best Scorps album don't have MS. Hoping to catch Uli Roth at BB Kings in NY. Thanks, as always

  12. as i was watching tv in the evening i fell upon the "wind of change" video.i couldn't stop thinking what a shame it is that Scorpions will forever be known for this boring piece of shit instead of their glorious 70's albums.then i open my computer and you have posted a Scorpions album from this exact period!and your words are definitely spot on.

  13. 'Tokyo Tapes' is one of the first albums I ever bought... And 'Taken By Force' would be my favourite Scorpions LP. Coincidentally I bought Uli Jon Roth's Electric Sun albums a couple of weeks ago.

  14. About a month ago, "Speedy's Coming" played on the radio while I was driving. What a wonderful song and memory. Always loved that one. Right now, I'm on the really spacy jam in the second half of "Drifting Sun," absolutely wonderful!

  22. How is this record going to top your introduction Aesop. You truly have a way with words my man.

  23. Uli was killer. I sat right in front of his Marshall, couldn't make out what his band was doing but that was fine by me. Quite a bit of old Scorps material, guitar wizardy, and some pot food. Afterwards he signed my Scorpions stuff. He was very nice and friendly. When I get my other blogspot up and running I'll do a post about it.

  25. Thank you, man. 70's Scorpions are possibly my favorite band ever. More people need to be made aware of their true glory.

  26. I really dig this album, but I can't believe nobody's really saying anything about the cover. It's everything-boggling.

  27. This is the album that made me aware that Scorps were at one time actually an awesome band. It completely took me by surprise, and I love this record.

  29. Thanks so much for this, Aesop! I haven't heard this one in full since the summer of '84. A friend of mine tipped me off to it back then. Prior to that I only knew the Scorps circa: "Louffdrive". "Just listen to hees reckowrd..." You got it, Klaus!

Btw, it was great to see ya at Laibach last week. Here's me blog:

  31. this album rules.. it is one of my favorite albums from the 70s, as well as in trance, and the mighty sad wings of destiny!

  32. I don't know how easy this is to remedy, but apparently this file has expired cuz it hasn't been downloaded in the past 60 days (?). I LOVE "in trance" and would like to check this out, but if it's a pain to fix I should probably just buy the thing. thanks for all you do
