Peru has never really been the country known for amazing punk records, but when I heard Narcosis' 1985 cassette Primera Dosis (First Dose), I was instantly strung out on their lo-fi presentation (no bass), infectious songs and the absolutely endearing voice of singer "Wicho" GarcĂa. Oh, and perhaps the best and only Spanish language cover of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" Punk!
Thanks for this one! The Ataque Frontal EP (recently reished on Burrito) is good & messy too.
ReplyDeleteKiller!!! does this band have other releases????
ReplyDeleteDef. getting this for the Stooges cover.
ReplyDeletethis is great. have you heard autonomia from peru? also awesome. their section of the 3-way with axiom/church of nihil is great
ReplyDeleteI appreciate this blog...seems you've been around longer than mine...and somehow I'm pushing 2 years??? DAMN! Only a year for you?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sean, Damaging Noise was, and remains an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are becoming a daily (or whenever) download for me.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if commenting still has a meaning at that rate.
Thanks all the same!
While it isnt an exact cover "Me gusta ser una zorra" by the spanish vulpess is basically I Wanna be your dog with different lyrics. Love your posts! Thanks for doing the blog.

I haven't listened to this yet, but Narcosis have a few tracks on tape comps, including the Syfillis nr 2 comp (w/the great Demilitarize).
ReplyDeleteI believe there is a Mexican band that covers "I wanna be your dog" in Spanish, if I can find it I'll upload it.
The sad part here is that vocalist Wicho Garcia would go onto sing for a band called Mar de copas, which is one of the most succesful pop acts from Peru. They claim to have substance, but after listening to them more than a few times and accidentally checking them out live a few years ago I'll bet my ass they have none whatsoever...
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, and then there was Spain's Paralisis Permanente also covering I Wanna Be Your Dog...
ReplyDeleteShows what I know, thanks Mr. Brown.
ReplyDeleteSS20 from Mexico covered "Now I wanna be your dog" in Spanish on their LP which is I think from....88? I can upload it if anyone is interested.
