  1. Awesome album that is always in my mp3 rotation - was the music for In The Beginning done in a single take?

  2. the short, suddenly backwards part at the end of the intro to "in the beginning" is one of my favorite sections of songs ever.

also, am interested in seeing what you'd post as the back cover to this.

  4. hickey's albums are gospel in my town. can't tell you how many people i know (and don't for that matter) who have the hickey heart tattoo--most of them, of course, from homemade stick prickers.

  5. The body of the song, with Erica singing was recorded in our kitchen, but everything that occure safter the backwards woooosh thingy that josh mentions was recorded in the studio in one single take, no overdubs or edits, except for a point where the reel had to be switched which was done as we were playing,

Josh, this was taken from the CD so it doesn't have the handmade back cover.

  7. My all time favorite band. I was a cheapskate, so my back cover was a photo of a lesbian parade or something taped on. Seeing you guys play at that little festival thing at Mount Shasta was one of my best memories ever.

  8. Here's the back cover from my copy.
Maybe other people can post up their versions.
    Thanks for Hickey.

  9. While in college the voodoo glow skulls came through town. we branded a bunch of cold cuts with the hickey logo and threw them at their van and their merch table as we were being ejected from the venue. (i was later told that the theft of cold cuts had nothing to do with the acrimonious b-side to the hickey 7" split with them).

  10. One of the greatest albums ever- each with it's own individual artwork on the back. we went through so much glitter decorating a of a box of those albums. In the beginning is my most favorite- Hickey and Erica! -ro

  14. You gotta live with this, bro.
    That is a GOOD thing.

Thanks for making some of The MIssion's finest soundtrack of the 90's music EVAR.

I just went out for a beer tonite & the streets here just don't have that same grit; is it just me getting older or what?

I love this place and hate this place sometimes, and right now, THIS IS WORKING FOR ME.

  15. Wow,

I have no idea what any of you are talking about (I'm in Melbourne, Australia) and when I went to find out Meida fire reckons the file is no longer hosted...

...i feel i'm missing out on something here.

  16. ILF, the file seems to be there, try again. However, for people outside the Bay Area this probably doesn't carry the same weight. Hickey were beloved in this city, hated in this country, and virtually unknown the world over. Maybe you'll like this, maybe you won't.

  17. OOOooooeeeeeey! This album is key. I remember this as a teenage grom, drinking/skating/puking with Hickey on the ghettoblaster under a bridge. Not much has changed about my Friday nights. I think it just got moved indoors. Oh, and there isn't a bunch of people around, just the girl, the cat, and me. Still, loud Hickey and copious amounts of swill. Fun. Thanks, for then and now.

I don't miss seeing all the wiener, though. I'm glad the Naked Cult of... finally put on some damn clothes.

  20. Thanks for this,

I enjoyed listening to it, a unique sound, smart and tuff but perhaps 'you had to be there' to truly get it. Though stealing from from the voodoo glow skulls (per wiki) is right on, they always stuck me as style over substance.

Cheers for this blog, i check it regularly and enjoy reading your descriptions almost as much as hearing stuff i ought to have allready heard. Thanks for pointing out "Death", i hadn't ever heard them and it has changed my life in a small but important way...

  21. whenever i get on a long painting jag and really need to put the hours in, i play every hickey recording i have (thanks for the bootleg tapes)back to back. this record changed me. i am so happy to have been a part of this moment in time even if it was like being punched in the face over and over. for the record my back cover is a picture of a roundy woman in panties and bra and it says "your mom"

  22. my back cover is a an elvis sticker proclaiming "everything i learned about sex i learned from hickey" w/ glitter and star stickers all around the edges of the sleeve, fucking great!

  27. One of my favorite albums, and really brings back my time in SF in the early 90s...especially the warehouse parties, blurred nights at the Chameleon (Karen on roller skates) and nights swerving in and out of traffic on my bike on the way to the next show/party. When I play a Hickey song on my radio show, there's always someone who emails/calls asking the requisite, "who the hell is this?!?" Only so happy to tell. Thanks for sharing, Aesop.
