220 Volt were a young Heavy Metal band from Ostersund Sweden. The Prisoner of War ep was the first release and was recorded in 1983, while most of the dudes were still in high school. According to Metal Archive's page on 220 Volt, the group started as the result of a goony golf mishap (check it!) The band would eventually switch to a more commercial hard rock style a few years later which brought them some success in Sweden but failed to make them a household name outside the region. This little EP is a rocking hen's tooth of Scandi-youthfulness and vigor. If you can't find anything to like in it then you are probably dead.
very cool thank you
ReplyDeleteSweet. Swedish metal. Östersund is a real drughole.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog; you have literally opened my eyes to the mysterious, yet intriguing world of black metal.
I have been listening to hc/punk for the last 17-18 years, and grew up in a scene where anything vaguely metal sounding was considered to be bad taste. I actually used to have a batch with Lärm's phrase "Metal Attitude Sucks" on my backpack.
Boy, was I wrong! I realized by reading your blog that I totally missed out on a great music genre. Now I feel like kicking myself for having missed out on Darkthrone, Burzum, Beherit, Mayhem, Malveillance etc. I am yet to be converted to the aesthetics of long hair and leather pants, and i'll probably never like NWOBHM bands, but the music of thes black metal bands on this blog...love it, can't get enough of it.
So thank you!
The guitar in the left speaker kills
ReplyDeleteRaise your swords for "Sauron"!
ReplyDelete220 Volt were part of that club of metal album covers that depicted an anonymous metalhead being abusing to their amplifiers. 220 Volt's self-titled, Exciter's Heavy Metal Maniac, Running Wild's Gates to Purgatory, etc...
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I NEVER trashed my amp/speakers but I always thought it was odd when we would pick up Russian radio through the tubes of my marshall 100 watt head.
ReplyDeleteIf you listen to the first Sanctuary album, the beginning of "Termination Force" you will know what I mean.
Can't wait to hear this.

Cobbetts Marchall JCM does the same thing hence the Soft Cell song at the end of Ludicra' "Why Conquer." It's called "parasitic oscillation" which is a way cooler name than what it actually is.
ReplyDeletePlease Tell John hello. Thank you for giving me a reason to bust out "Another Great Love Song" . This release did not leave my turntable for two months. If the band ever need a fill in gtr. I'm there.
