Black Devil

This cocaine freakout of an album came up back when I posted Venus Gang's Galactic Soul album. This is perhaps my favorite drug-induced French space disco album, it makes all other drug-induced French space disco albums obsolete. Black Devil was the collaboration between two of France's leading names in French space disco, Bernard Fevre and Jacky Giordano. Of course Bernard Fevre has tried and tried again to capitalize on the minimal success that was Black Devil's Disco Club record, but nothing can trump the cough syrup Gallic funk of the original wax. Way fucked up.

  1. Wait--where's this been all my life? This is just awesome. I'm only halfway through it, but so far it's great. Thanks!

  3. The album he did in 1975 is cool its like library synth stuff - But the remake of it is really cool.

    Black devil disco club presents..

Theres a black stiletto boot on the cover

Well worth looking for great Electronica

  4. Thanks Aesop for yet another keeper. Somewhere out there someone must have an mp3 of the music Damon Edge and Helios Creed made as a backing tape for a strip club but, probably not surprisingly, freaked the girls out so much they refused to perform to it. I imagine it's some distant sonic relative of this.

  8. "I picked a bad week to stop doing coke".

I wasn't going to check this out until that comment.

I guess I picked a bad week to shave my chest hair and sell my gold chain spoon.

  10. in the Vinland vs. Finland post a long time ago, you mentioned that you have an issue of Fall to Your Knees Pissing scanned. any chance you'd ever upload that on this blog??

  11. Joshua, that was the idea but there were a lot of problems with the scanner and I never finished it.

  24. I have to disagree with you about Monsieur Fevre's (we are in blog comments territory which makes it almost mandatory I guess)later output as been somehow a pale imitation of the original 'Disco Club' album....the newer stuff while I agree doesnt surpass this album, it's just different thats all and certainly not a pale imitation...and yet is still instantly recognisable as the Black Devil Disco Club 'sound'.

Since Rephlex re-released the album in 2004 I have been slavishly following his work and all his later albums are worth getting.

If you liked Bernard Fevre then you will equally grok the sounds of Jean Pierre Massiera and Bernard Torelli, Jean-Pierre Decerf, Rene Roussel and my new favourite Jacky Chalard whose 1974 album "Je Sus Vivant, Mais J'ai Peur De Gilbert Deflez" was reissued on the legendary UK label 'Finders Keepers' last year gave me the same feeling I had when I first came across BDDC in 2004...that good! (Holy Warbles may still have it posted..ssshhh..)
