Here's a compilation EP released by Lost & Found in 1995. Uncurbed kick things off with their furious Swedish hardcore track "Riots In Blood" I am not sure where Taste of Fear hailed from but their contibution "Headstone" bears the early pummel of proto-grind and crust. Disgust are next, remember them? They were one of the more memorable groups in the sea of dis-clone band oversaturation at the time. Cold World were like Austria's answer to Siege, they really should have been better known. Finnish band Bastards sound a bit out of place here with their rather dated Finnish hardcore sound, I love them (even featured their amazing EP here) but they sound a bit wimpy sandwiched between Cold World and Dead Beat. Kaaos suffers the same affliction. Their track "Vaihtoehto" is one of their bests but has also appeared on numerous other more appropriate comps. Boston's legenday Disrupt grind and scrape through the 34 second "Same Old Shit." Sweden's No Security peel paint with their cut. Confrontation kinda suck but I am sure someone will tell me how they were really important and seminal and whatever. The whole affair is wrapped up by the two best known contributors, Siege and Heresy. Both kill of course. Not sure if this comp actually destroys power but it definitely destroys boredom for approximately fifteen minutes.
Are you sure it's not taste of fear. I have this record, but haven't pulled it out in a few years. Pretty sure it's them, post citizens arrest daryl kahan shit. dude from mind eraser actualy dro=ummed from them for a bit. did a split with evolved to obliteration too. TMI?
ReplyDeleteis that the same disgust that was on earache and released "brutality of war"? mm...heresy, siege...bastards...kaaos...whats up with all the awesome comps?
ReplyDeletemore!
also had a Trotzreich ep in there....i'm willing to bet it's some NSBM...
ReplyDeleteso punk and metal in one post. this is why i love the hearse.
Aaron, you are correct. Doug, yeah that pesky Trotzreich slipped in. Thanks to both of you. Post fixed now.
ReplyDeleteI had this too. I think it is a boot, at least I have heard that the Swedish bands on here weren't even asked before. Also it's more like a label sampler than a compilation, but bizarrely presented as a DIY "Pay No More Than" release! And the fold out poster is like all pixellated and shit if I remember correctly (must be one of the earliest examples of pixellacre?)
ReplyDeleteWhy is there a swastika on the cover? Is this the power that they're supposed to be destroying? If so, why isn't it presented in a more 'anti' fashion?
ReplyDeleteI mean...that's kind of a cool looking swastika. Bullets and bloody axes.
Maybe I listen to too much black metal. I'm just sayin...
Eric, the image was lifted from Anti-Fascist German artist John Heartfield, Discharge appropriated his work for their "Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing" and "Never Again" releases. I imagine that like Heartfield and Discharge, whoever chose to use this image saw it as unveiling the true nature of fascism as violent and brutal, and yeah, it looks kinda cool. I imagine that it would seem just as cool to some pimple faced NS kid in Belgium as well. If you are interested in Heartfield's awesome images or just want to "borrow" some for your anarcho-crust/lo-fi NSBM band go here, he was punk!!!

I know for a fact that Lost and Found had no right to release anything by Siege and that they bootlegged a lot of bands. Interviewed the guys behind the label for a zine about 14 years ago or more and they were very unrepentant about it. Complete rip off artists really. Anyways, The Siege material is officially available from Deep Six records on 12" and Deranged (iirc???) records on CD.
