This crustified classic was Misery's second full length. Who Is The Fool... marries the primal chug of Amebix with the nuclear fury of Discharge. Misery were pioneers of the crust scene in Minneapolis, a city now internationally known for this kind of filthy political metallipunk. They had songs about war, cops, nuclear arms, war, and cops, and war. Who is the fool? The fool is silence.
Thanks. I've needed to hear more Misery than the 'Born, Fed, Slaughtered' single & their demo for too bloody long.
ReplyDeleteAesop, thank you very much for the recommendation, I'm listening now and I really like a lot. I had not heard this band before. A big hug (Shownomercy)
ReplyDeleteI was just listening to the first lp yesterday. Still sounds great. Special thanks for making clear the sketchy anarchist political slant this band espouses so some folks can download with caution!
ReplyDeleteAwesome write up!!! especially the last part. This is definitely a classic.
ReplyDeleteThe fool is me for selling this LP! Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI worked with one of these guys at a t shirt shop in Minneapolis. I just remember him being tall pale with long dyed black hair, and wearing a misery shirt...
ReplyDeletefound this 12" at Mississippi records in Portland and it will never leave my collection. THANKS for the mp3's!
ReplyDeletein some moments they're better than amebix and/or nausea, and thats BIG thing in my book. after this (and next time ep) band went downhill. today I listened their live tape from ilirska bistrica, slovenia, 1995. little bit out of tune, pretty drunk and down to earth crust as it was long ago. long live oldskul crust.

You can still catch these dude around here. Felix Havok runs the country's best volunteer run punk rock record store, Extreme Noise. Too many cops here in Minneapolis. Yesterday, I was riding my bike, a cop almost hit me while screeching suddenly across three lanes. He tackled some dude off of a bike then emptied a whole can of pepper spray an inch from the dude's face. Then he slapped about the head and face a good twenty times before a second cop pulled him off. Downtown is all on CCTV and there's a cop every 30 feet. Still, crackheads manage to shoot and stab each other on the regular in my hood. Thusly, you can still catch a good crust show for cheap on almost any night of the week. Pros and cons...
ReplyDeletehell yeah bro, nice post!
