None Shall Defy

Fuck, I love this. Sometimes I think if Infernal Majesty had a better name and weren't from Canada they might now be hailed as one of the more important thrash bands of the '80s. Seriously, have you heard this? Right out of the gate it's ripping with speed, and solos, and roto toms. None Shall Defy was Infernal Majesty's debut and these calamitous Canucks wasted no fucking time. Musically, these guys kind of worshipped at the same inverted church as Possessed and Slayer. Fortunately Infernal Majesty mixed up the tempos and had a firmer grasp on dynamics and arrangements than alot of their contemporaries. This keeps None Shall Defy. This is mandatory, even if you don't generally care for the thrash. This one may just change your mind.

  1. The proto-Jugalo cover probably didn't help them either. Sounds pretty fucking killer though.

yes! YES! Sacrifice, Razor and Infernal Majesty. Canada thrash rules. Infernal Majesty is a kickass name, too. Abomination of a cover though.

  4. Infernal Majesty also kinda failed I feel because of their... glam,... past (?!) The internet might hold relevant evidence.

    Regardless, this record is amazing.

  5. I also remember reading something about someone in the band pretending to be a vampire or some such thing.

"However, due to uncontrollable circumstances, the tape was not finished. According to rumors the masters are safe and sound just waiting for the day when they will be completed. The band discouraged after various let-downs, separates out of sheer frustration. Vince in his own special way, became one of Canada's most notorious criminals. The "Vampire Trial", as quoted by a local Toronto newspaper, was just one of the many headlines for the now famous incident. Vince was arrested and sent to jail for slicing the wrist of a young woman and sucking her blood. After 7 months behind bars, he was found guilty of aggravated assault and convicted to just one day. During the trail the young lady fell in love with Vince and they decided to live happily ever after."

  6. Back in December Requiem Metal Podcast did a special on this album. Generally a good show with sort of bumbling and free range discussions about the music, but where you can learn/be reminded about a lot.

  8. Classic album. Had this on tape back when it came out. Amoeba yielded a $2.95 CD, which I promptly scooped up. I think "SOS" was the first time I heard anything like a blast beat.
