Before the talk show, before the Apple and Gap ads, before The Chase, before the Dolphin shorts, before the poetry, before the weird Jim Morrison/Jim Dandy/Charles Manson persona, before Damaged there was S.O.A. and this angry little record just bursting at the seams with Henry Garfield hostility. It's pretty clear why Ginn wanted to give this kid a job.
I have this on a Dischord compilation along with Minor Threat, Youth Brigade, Teen Idles and Government Issue - it's a fantastic CD and one that makes me wish I were there in the day instead of six years old in a town of 300.
ReplyDeleteYou really have a way of putting things Aesop. LOL
ReplyDeletenow were talkin
ReplyDeletePrefect music for my Monday morning. Thanks as always-j
ReplyDeleteHarmony in my head was/is a decent radio show. Henry's got one hell of an enyclopedic musical knowledge-base. Indie 103 just went off the air, though. It's internet only now, which is unfortunate. Rollins and Jonesy were a welcome relief on local radio. Now L.A. has 100% shit on the FM waves. Rollins is such a goon, I can't even tell how I feel about him anymore. I guess I just don't.
ReplyDeleteGreat record. Thanks for posting. Best SOA lyric? "If you see a cop coming, you better move quick, or he's gonna beat you with a stick."
ReplyDeleteI think this is missing track 8, "Gang Fight." Can you re-up it with that track please?
ReplyDeleteOops, my bad. Fixed it.
ReplyDeletejust recently heard demo of the same band, called "The Extorts" before Garfield. Same simple songs, but Hank's vocals crush the unsure bark of the "Elvis" Preslar.

I still don't see it, Aesop. Am I doing something wrong?
ReplyDeleteNo, I just uploaded the bad one again. It should be fine now.
