Ultra-Violence

Pubescent Pinoy bangers, downey moustached puffy white tennies and rat weed. The Ultra-Violence was the heaviest thing going in San Francisco in 1987 next to AIDS. Death Angel were the boy wonders of the burgeoning, bludgeoning Bay Area thrash scene and this album was their bold mission statement. Some might be turned off by Mark Osegueda's vocals, but this album packs enough chunky riffage and youthful exuberance to power the city by the bay. An ultra- classic.

  1. Death Angel's Seemingly Endless Time from Act III has been forever in my rotation of mp3's since they were invented as the album itself is pretty fucking old now - there's just something about guitar wank and the monster fucking riff in that song that screams out to my inner 15 year old.

  2. Man I haven't heard this one in years, but I do remember it being the shit when it came out back in 87. I remember being amazed that this music was created by 15 or 16 year old kids.

  4. I think I first heard Death Angel on a comp of live stuff recorded at Ruthies - a venue in SF I think? Dunno, I live in Seattle. But I really liked it. Picked up this LP and, aside from the songs being a little long, liked it even more. I think the singer's voice is cool, it's part whiny metal dude / part balls out screaming. Check out those high pitched screams in "Mistress of Pain." Gnarly.

  5. This is just a great, great fucking thrash record. the guitar tone - the riffs - the solos - the vocals. amazing. The title track rules. I used to get hella-fuckin-baked and blast this while cruising around town in my dad's Fiero. seriously. It slayed everytime and it still slays.

  7. I have fond memories of talking with their drummer who was only 14 then outside the Mabuhay Gardens and and at some parties. They were a trio then ,I think, and I thought they totally raged. They got a lot of shit from some of the snobby metalheads around then and that will allways exist unfortunately. Thanks for posting good shit Aesop.

  8. Yes! I used to work with Mark and he is one of the nicest guy's on this stench-drenched planet. Death Angel and Metal Church are two bands that purists always turn their noses up at. But they forget... METAL TURNS UP ITS NOSE AT NO ONE!

  9. i was stuck in bum fuck madison wis in ' 87 but we had this great place called B side records, wich btw is STILL there after all these years. and thats where i layed down my hard earned 9.99 for this on vinyl anywho, there was hype before this thing even hit the stores, due to the local bay area thrash scene, and hell there wasnt even the interwebs back then.
so i cant remember how i heard of this band, but i thought (as a 17 year old "thrasher") 'cool name, great title' i'll by it,
all in all in imo this is still an important piece of art that has stood the test of time
and i might as well mention that back in the 90's when they where playing as 'The Organization" i thought they sucked
i'm going to DL this becouse my vinyl collection went up in a blaze of smoke, or was that up my nose in a dust storm? either way i'll be rockin this on my 'pod in the am
