I know the writing has been kind of skimpy lately, but what more could I possibly say about one of my all time favorite bands that I didn't already say here. Enjoy their deeply moving first album.
I bought this album on the cover art alone from a chain record store that had a tiny punk section back in the day and I instantly became a fan. Saw the orig. line up at 688 in Atlanta. Most people like Wino but I'm decidedly a Scott Reagers fan. The first two records are wonderful.
Thanks Aesop. I had a momentary loss of sanity a few years back and sold all my SAINT VITUS vinyl...sometimes I am a real dope. I love the album cover for this record. It is so minimally perfect.
i love Saint Vitus, though i'm a bit partial to Wino(in fact i love everything the man has done).nevertheless Scott Reagers is a great vocalist too.and,of course,i absolutely worship Chandler's guitar playing.one of my all time favourite guitar players.
I love SaintVitus, i don't see how people can pick which singer they like better Wino/Reagers, its like asking someone to choose their favorite child...and i love them both equally.
this and die healing are still my favourites altough there´s no weak trac in their discography . does anyone know what has become of reagers since die healing ?
Ah, the guitar tone that Chandler tortured out of his gear...I remember how wrong and fucked up it sounded when I bought this and Hallow's Victim as a wee lad, and then all at once in a stoned fit of satori it dawned on me that the broken blown out tones fit the broken blown out Gestalt that was Saint Vitus. That's the good stuff.
I remember turning this on to a guy that would only listen to Black Sabbath and BOC. The Saint soon was added to that list. Bonus...this cat had the BOC logo over his bed made of Malboro red labels!-jabladav
Aesop stikes again! Thank you so much for posting this Vitus classic. More people should hear it. I am very partial to the albums on which Scott Reagers is the singer. 'Hallow's Victim' and 'Die Healing' are to other must-hears and in AD 2009 very hard to find. Perhaps future posts of this stuff?
Nothing has ever duplicated these guys who have always been a favorite and not just because Armando Acosta saved me from an ass kicking at Venom/Slayer/Exodus at the Hollywood Palladium circa 1984. Needless to say but the world of music would not be the same without this band.
aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh. LATELY. not lateley.
ReplyDeleteGreat band, one of my favourites as well, thanks for all the BM recommendations, Bone Awl, Bilskirnir Lord Hitler etc...
