The best hardcore band ever to come from San Diego's debut album was released in 1984 on their own Nutron label. I fell in love with this band based on their contribution to the seminal 1982 BYO comp Someone Got Their Head Kicked In. The fact that they had "Mad" Marc Rude on art duty didn't hurt. Fast, catchy hardcore that makes you want to skate, smoke dust, and fight cops. Some of these dudes died, rumor has it they lived as fast as they played. Thankfully they left this behind.
Damn,how many of them died?
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong but I believe two
ReplyDeleteOne of my all time favorite bands. They are still playing....with the the singer being the only original member
ReplyDeleteOh, shit! My older brother had this back in the day! Still sounds fucking killer.
ReplyDeletedidn't marc rude also do the cover for Earth A.D.?
ReplyDeleteThe Bats did rule. "Someone Got Their Head Kicked In"? That's taking me back. The only other band on that comp that I could still listen to is the Adolescents. Everything else? No way.
ReplyDeleteFUCK YEAH! BATTALION OF SAINTS FUCKING RULE!!!
ReplyDeletegreat album! long time since i listened to this band. tack kompis!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sir Aesop. Your work on this blog is much appreciated. BoS is insane!
ReplyDeleteFuck the Johannes Mehserle verdict.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the album and not the Remix tracks from the CD they put out.
ReplyDeleteI just listened to both versions...what the hell were they thinking?
That BYO comp was my introduction to them as well & definately left me wanting more. This album is great & I much prefer it to Fighting Boys although I think their best work is the Second Coming 7" which I'm pretty sure came out on Mystic and on which they play unbelievably fast. The last decent band I was in covered Second Coming a la the ep version. I remember when the guitarist died - something to do with a bathtub if I remember correctly. Was a sad day for me.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - & the story the singer tells on American Hardcore about Henry Rollin's first visit to San Diego is... memorable
ReplyDeleteThnX Ace!! reminds me of Freshman year in HS! I also like that "Fighting Boys" ep! That was the shiz!
ReplyDeleteholy crap. i totaly missed thios post

oh man, I used to love this album when it came out. it came with a poster of the band members heads impaled on spikes-- I hung it in my dorm room much to my roommates dismay!
