Sorrows are an exceptional Black Metal band that hail from somewhere in the U.S. The band prefers to keep it's profile mysterious, which is fine by me. Sometimes the less I know the better when it comes to new bands. Sorrows just offers up two songs on their debut demo, but they pack a lot of classic Black Metalisms into the scant thrteen minutes of material. There are wispy keys, acoustic guitars as well as buzzing electric ones, there is blast beats, and pained shrieks, there is atmosphere, there is mystery. Sorrows are a band to watch for, great stuff.
Well-picked name; there's also a power pop sorrows.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why not putting your names/contact info on releases automatically makes you "mysterious". I mean, you don't know my name, am I mysterious too?
ReplyDeleteFirst black metal post of 2011 and what a post. Easily ranks as one of the best bm posts thus far
ReplyDeletebtw when were you planning on re-upping all the korean bm, that stuff got me really intrigued
I realise you may have heard this loads of times already but oh well welcome back buddy :)
Ben
I think this has more to do with aesthetics. Some bands don't want people to focus on the members. They only want people to focus on the music itself.
ReplyDelete^ that's fine, and I'm not really taking issue with this particular post, just the general use of the word "mysterious" lately - it really is all over the place, completely unnecessarily, and pretty stupidly, in my opinion.
ReplyDeletewhat a mysteriously worded complaint!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, you seem to be real unfamiliar with the basic aesthetic of Black Metal. Mystery and obscurity are extremely important whether you like it or not. It is not "lately" either; it has been a tenet of Black Metal since its inception.
ReplyDeletethis shit is fuckin' trve. sounds pretty much like norway circa 1993 without cloning any other band. that's how it should be done. definitely excited to hear where this goes.
ReplyDeletereally digging this, thanks!
ReplyDeleteGood one! Great sound, not quite like anything out there, and their passion and total commitment to the music is unmistakable - a full length album from them in 2011 would be one to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI donno, this kind of sucks... Yeah, there are a "lot of classic Black Metalisms" and thats kind of the problem. Dude needs to peel back and focus more so he can write actual interesting songs, not some ok parts thrown together sloppily with really awkward transitions...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive review and thanks to everyone for the positive opinions, as far as this release goes. It's not something I'm too happy about but I'm glad people enjoy it. This was done in 2009 and I believe I've become a better song writer since then but visit the Sorrows page for the newer EP entitled "Lethe" Also I began writing for another EP.
