Al (Flipside): What's going on on the "Conquest For Death" cover?

The Necros Conquest For Death 12 inch. When this came out some folks were disappointed that this wasn't as crazy as the 7 inch of the same name and that The Necros had started to grow their hair out. I remember people thinking this was an attempt to "sell-out," but what the fuck? This record is one of the finer moments in hardcore and was the inspiration for me to paint their logo on the leather I had, but could never wear, because it never dipped below 80 degrees where I grew up. And though I can't really put it into words, there was something really haunting and appealing to me about that cover. Hardcore rules, and this record exemplifies why it did, and why it always will. Fuck the haters.

ReplyDeleteEverybody regrets a a show or two that they missed. For me the tops were Necros in a backyard in Campbell, CA and the time I couldn't go out on a school night to see Celtic Frost/Voi Vod.
Yes, I am sad to say that I never saw VoiVod. I once was grounded and had to miss Van Halen. When I saw The Necros it was at a poolside BBQ at an apartment complex in Ft Lauderdale. I am not certain of the year. Perhaps Mark Underground or Jeff Hodapp can confirm the year. The Abusers opened, and some other band that was forgettable. It was my first "real" punk show.

ReplyDeletedon't remember a ft. laud show...we opened for them in Gainesville in 1983. They were great - the overall experience was rather unpleasant tho.

ReplyDeletewell, You know how you plan an event & think it's going to be great & it isn't...Necros headlined at the second of our meticulously planned "slamfest" events - 1st one in 82 was great - This one in 83 had it's problems (equipment issues, audience issues, police issues - the hippie-owner of the space was arrested mid-show). Some Necros were not too amused by all this (can't totally blame them) & less amused when some slamming kid went flying backward & broke their snare stand. Their set was great - tho some of the crowd turned against them after their drumset tantrum. This show and a couple others led me to the realization that "promoting" shows was best left to others.

This one came up weird when I downloaded it. Three songs had track numbers attached, and the rest didn't. When I looked up a Necros discog to find the proper order of the tracks, it didn't quite match. I've got two copies of "Search for Fame", I don't seem to have "No One" or "Police Brutality", and the track list I found for the album doesn't include "Take 'Em Up".

i do know hilsinger and i took corey rusk out for his first sushi ever at country station on Mission with Bambi from the Mudwimin once...
despIte his big city CEO status, being a solid midwestern boy, he didn't really seem enthralled by the sushi concept...or the quirky JAPANESE COWBOY atmosphere
