Missile Command

Missile Command was the former band of Ludicra guitarist Christy Cather. They played Death Metal, smoked pot, and played classic Atari games. This demo was the bands only release and it is killer. Thanks to Christy for sharing this rare gem.

Punk Dog

Today I saw a crusty's dog on Haight street wearing an Anti-Cimex Victims of a Bomb Raid t shirt, it was tailored to fit his dog body. I was reminded how ripping that EP is so now I am posting it here. Anti-Cimex was the closest thing Sweden had to Discharge, perhaps why they are heralded as one of the most intense and influential European punk bands. You probably already knew all of this from the scores of other blog tributes to the great Anti-Cimex, but if you never heard this 7" EP, you should, and find out why even dogs like dig them.

Sorry, I can't figure out what is up with this link. I have tried to re-up it several times now with no success. If you are absolutely in need of this you can go here:

Ulaan Khol

This Jewelled Antler entity is known as Ulaan Khol. This project abandons the usual Jewelled Antler found sounds and jangly spartan acoustic instrumentation and dives headlong and acid drippping into psychedelic drones created with guitars and drums, even sounds vaguely Krautrock at times. It is a murky bog of lush sound that you can get lost in. Easily one of my favorite JA incarnations. Pass me that ceramic wizard over there.

Psychic Possessor

Crazed Brazilian crossover thrash from Psychic Possessor. The band ventures into some questionable "grooves" from time to time on their 1988 debut album Toxin Diffusion. Most of the lyrics deal in the dangers of toxins and biochemical weapons, an obsession that seems to permeate the scores of new retro thrash trend bands. I'll take Psychic Possessor over Municipal Waste or Toxic Holocaust any day of the week.

Blatant Localism

Cutest punk 7" ever.

Remmirath

Brilliant experimental Black Metal from Slovakia. Don't know much about the Slovakian scene, but Remmirath definitely piqued my interest. The band has more in common with Ruins of Beverast and Smohalla rather than any corpse painted Darkthrone clone. Here is their 2005 Ep Smrt Putnikova for you.

Massakred

This is a rollicking good time of a comp CDR from the awesome home spun underground label, Morbid Massakre. Like all things Morbid Massakre related, this comp rules, and the inclusion of Hearse alumni, Nuclear Frost, Rukkus, and Evil Army helps. A great variety of retro-thrash, grinding crust, and war-obsessed D-Beat. Seriously you should buy everything this label offers, it is all exceptional and cheap.

Oum

Thanks and praise to Awesome Tapes From Africa for this one.

Metal

Manilla Road is America's best kept secret. For over three decades Mark "The Shark" Shelton has been delivering some the greatest epic metal and yet Manilla Road remains generally unknown. I gave you their best album and their first album, but the second record Metal is another favorite of mine. This sits perfectly between the other two, it shows the band realizing their more metalized NWOBHM sound but still retains some of the naive wonky charm of the debut. I swear Tenacious D's career was built on the song "Cage of Mirrors."

Reality

In August 1945 the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan.
In April 1980 John Peel played this record on his radio show.

I'm Back!

Well it was more like three weeks but I had a blast. It was really nice to meet so many Cosmic Hearse supporters face to face. You all are too sweet, really. Besides meeting so many cool folks and camping under big skies with my brothers and sisters in Ludicra, the highlight of the journey was seeing and hanging with the amazing Columbus, Ohio metal band Deadsea. Their insane mathy Atheist meets Mercyful Fate meets Venom trip fucking blew my mind. Bassist, Alex, said it would be totally cool if I posted their CD here, in fact he seemed really excited to have you all check it out. Deadsea may be the best metal band in the USA that you have never heard of. You decide. It's good to be back.
