Love Songs

I'm starting to think the Netherlands was doing Death Metal as good as the Swedes or the Floridians in the early '90s. Asphyx and Pestilence were well-known enough, but what about the brilliant and obscure Antropomorphia? If you have never had the pleasure of hearing their 1993 EP, Necromantic Love Songs you are in for a gory treat of pure Dutch bludgeon. On top of having great riffs and arrangements, Antropomorphia had a gem in the form of bassist, Marc Van Stiphout. Often it is his basslines that carry the song's hook. If you love the ancient Death Metal, and don't know this criminally overlooked release, prepare to fall in love.

Oldschool death metal? Tastefully awesome bass players? Looks like this is about to make me day. Thanks as always, Aesop.

Be sure to check out Deathevokation's (mind-blowing San Diego death metal band) cover of "Chunks of Meat" on their "Chalice of Ages" LP if ya haven't heard it already...

Jake, it was that very cover that pointed me towards this overlooked band. Steve Nelson is a bro.

Your prose prompted me to leave a comment. So many bloggers hardly have the gift for gab that you do Aesop! Can't wait till my DSL finishes bringing it to me.

Thanks for the add btw. You're truly a good dude and I crazily appreciate the love.

goddamn! Thanks, Aesop! I only know about florida death metal, which is why I guess I hate that genre.

This shit is totally simple and catchy while still being dirty and mean and a little technical. Can you reccomend any other bands like this?!??

Just got around to listening to this and it is fan-fucking-tastic. Especially 'Chunks of Meat' and 'Rotted Flesh.' Totally what I was in the mood for today.

long time since i listened to this, made me want to listen to their other demo`s too! I know these guys personally, the bass player and drummer are now active in Flesh Made Sin ( first efforts were pure old school thrash, now going in a much darker direction though) , and the bassis also plays in more gothenburgish band The New Dominion for those interested...
