For a cassette, the Charred Remains compilation was pretty widely distributed. This tape, released in '81 by Version Sound, compiled some of the best hardcore bands in the U.S. Standout tracks from Void, Husker Du, Rebel Truth, Violent Apathy, Die Kreuzen, and Articles of Faith, as well as a bunch of other lesser bands who still kick ass. I used to skate to this tape.

Thanks for this, never saw this one. We didn't get much stuff like this imported, mostly vinyl. Great line-up though. Die Kreuzen are probably my fave band on this along with Hüskers and Void. I'm stoked to hear that the Kreuzen songs are totally different versions to both the EP and LP, really raw sounding here. Bricklayer sounds like it was lifted from the Landspeed Record if I'm not mistaken, haven't heard that in a looong time. Just out of interest Aesop, what were your preferred terrains? I skated for 20+ years.
I did some street skating, never was that good and gave it up to focus on playing drums. Should've went to college.
Used to skate to Drunk Injuns and Septic Death. Street and downhill were the favorite methods. A good old Santa Cruz skate with Independent trucks and Slimeball wheels anyhow thanks for the comp!
When I first saw the title, I just automatically thought Man Is The Bastard, any correlation?Did they possibly take their name from this comp? It's funny cause when I go ride at the skateparks I see all the kids with their ipods on. So I asked one kid "What are you listenin' to,man",he looked at me kind of funny and said "George Straite",I had to chuckle and think to myself- Only in Texas....shortly after that some kid asked me if I was a Hippy....funny shit.
The MITB connection never occurred to me, I suppose that is possible.
I just saw Bastard Noise play in East LA and it was crushing!
Anyone remember those Thrasher mag cassette comps? I look forward to checking this out Aesop.
Neil Blender board/OJ's/Thunder Trucks.
also not very good. Half-pipe I was OK.
I think this guy has all the old skate rock comps:

Vol. 3 was always my favorite. C.O.C.! Septic Death! Yeah, I'm in the "used to skate" club too.
Used to skate to Code Of Honor, Massappeal, Flag on Santa Cruz or Zorlac and always and only Indy's. Ditches, parks, streets, hills, mini's. Jeff Phillips was the ruler, RIP.
Indeed, Jeff Phillips R.I.P.
I was loyal to Schmidt Sticks (a Florida thing) and Thunder trucks (those cool fucking base plates.)
Punk comps on tape+'80s skateboarding=WIN
I always got this confused with Cyrnai's, "charred blossoms." But anything with Die Kreuzen on it, especially early on, is a classic.
YOU Guys 'USED TO Skate... for *FUN*?? I Used to skate.. to Get-A-way from COPS!!
Isn't The HUSKERS DUSKERS Tracks 'live' on this this tape?? As i recollect.
