Last Rights

Here's a bit of youthful anger that may have eluded you the first time around in the 1980s. Perhaps you weren't born yet, perhaps you (like me) avoided the bulk of seemingly meat-headed Boston hardcore bands. Anyhoo, Last Rights was the short lived band of Jack "Choke" Kelly after the ridiculously awesome Negative FX and before the ridiculous Slapshot. Not as frantic as NFX and nothing about sports as was the case with Slapshot. The sound here is pretty standard Boston, reminding me of DYS. The B-side, "So Ends Our Night" even tells a typically Boston HC story of hanging out with your asshole buddies and beating someone up. Interesting factoid: some band called Dinosaur JR. covered "Chunks" on their album You're Living All Over Me.

My favorite Boston record. You put on "So Ends The Night", your moshing....

Dinosaur Jr's version was not on the You're Living All Over Me album, or if so it was a bonus track on some CD reissue. Otherwise it was a b-side of some single. They do still play it live, or at least they did this July in Des Moines.

Didn't this have a mega Nazi sleeve?

didnt "choke" go on to become a hair dresser before riding the cash cow of reunion era/perpetual euro touring slapshot? a very decidedly unmanly, unboston profession indeed! either way, i fucking love NFX. will check this out too, thanks aesop!

It was the B-side of the 12" version of their cover of "Just Like Heaven," not really a B-side, more like and extra A-side since the flip was a really busy etching of stuff that kinda looks like vomit but might have been food. This record rules hard, never heard the original until today...
