Dark Quarterer

Really only Italians could pull off something as bizarre and grandiose as the proggy cult doom of Dark Quarterer. The band was formed way back in 1974 by eccentric bassist/vocalist Gianni Nepi, but didn't release their amazing self titled debut album until 1987. And while I wonder what these guys must've sounded like in '74, this album shows them sort of treading the same path of backward-thinking eccentricity as Cirith Ungol and Slough Feg. This comparison alone should have you clamoring for this Dark Quarterer album. Truly epic cult metal filtered through the Italian psyche with all the melodrama and pageantry that we've come to expect from the country's metal bands. Essential.

Wow this great. The vocals are incredible! btw - I am a sucker for any band that has a song and album named after them. The song Dark Quarterer by Dark Quarterer from the album Dark Quarterer is amazing!

This is one of the best records in the genre. I haven't checked the download but there is a vinyl rip that sounds much much better than the cd bootleg that has been widely circulated, worth tracking down the good version in any case.

'Gates of Hell' is my favorite track here, the lyrics really resonate. Their next album is amazing as well. As is 'Violence'. This is a very underrated band that has made music for the ages.

first place discovery, stands out of all other 500 albums I've heard in 2009. not a single bad track and really emotional, complex and progressive linked with skilled musicianship. Bought the vinyl after downloading. thanks!

This is an amazing album. I am fortunate enough to own 2 lp vinyl copies, one an original release and the other a test pressing from the 2002 re release.
