State

State were a hardcore band from Michigan. They only released a killer EP titled No Illusions in 1983, and an LP titled False Power in 1987. I became aware of these guys through the Killed By Hardcore comp which bore the No Illusions cover art. I have heard that the LP was nothing all that special but I'd like to decide for myself, so if anyone has it send it over please.

I don't have the LP, but I have a CD they released a few years ago with this material and a bunch of other early stuff on it called "Nixed Life" Let me know if you want it. These guys have been playing around again the past few years, released some new stuff and have actually been tearing it up live.

I always thought this was like a heavier, meaner S.O.A. Not a bad sound to have at all, and I'd love to hear the album even though it supposedly sucks.

i was turned on to these guys by my bros in Hard Stance back in 87 or something. It was kinda spooky trying to find the heaviest hardcore back then.

I have this on one of the Punk Territory CD. This is a very good hardcore 7", better than some that are considered "classic". I think they would have been more popular if they had a cooler name.

I lived in Ann Arbor back when and saw The State a buncha times. One show with Meatmen and The Gun Club was shut down by the cops and resulted in a mini-snowball riot. A2 scene definitely paled a bit in comparison to Detroit but The State represented well.

I think this band is still playing, and have recorded at least two more EP one or two years ago : "sanctimony EP", and "verboten EP".
it still sounds good.
middle aged frustration rocks.

The LP is killer, fuck the haters.

They re-formed a few years back and have since released a split 7" and I believe 2 other 7"s. The split is good (not great) but I haven't heard the other new stuff. Regardless, that LP is the fucking jam.
