While Sweden may have had the most note worthy young Death Metal bands in the early '90s just about every other European country had at least one worthwhile crew of gore-obsessed blasphemers banging out an unholy noise on down-tuned guitars. Finland's most promising entry was Convulse. It is their 1992 album, World Without God, that is on the gurney today. Unlike the Finns from the last post, Convulse don't give a fuck about fun or flume rides, just the misshapen din of nihilistic death metal from the land of cell phones and reindeer. Crushing.

I've got 'Reflections', but had no idea they had other albums. Can't wait to hear it, thanks.
Convulse is good stuff
caveman thunk and howl
but do you have any Puhelinkoppi?
looking forward to this, thanks.
"Finland's most promising entry was Convulse."
No-- that would be Demigod. "Slumber of Sullen Eyes" is one of thee greatest DM albums from ANY country. That said, WWG is a monster that still receives regular plays here at the Vatican. Oh, and add Funebre's "Children of the Scorn," and Abhorrence's demos too (one of which can be found here: http://www.pitchline-zine.com/demos.item.php?id=000044).
Great post, nonetheless.
Jake, outside of the Demigod album (which is great) I know not the others. I guess I spoke out of turn. Thanks for the heads up.
More deathly Finns:

Adramelech - Pure Blood Doom (see where Arghoslent got their riffing style):

Enjoy!
sick! an earlier post made me a huge fan of Grave, and its great to hear something else in that nasty, crushing style. some of those tremolo riffs are a bit on the cold and trebly side, no? perhaps they've been listening to darkthrone on the sly.
Re: Finnish death metal:
Demilich's Nespithe anyone?
This album caught me completely off guard when I first heard it, since I listened to it well after hearing their foolish second record. I was actually thinking of doing a write-up for this dad myself sometime.
Thanks for those links, Jake. Excited to hear the Abhorrence demo.
Convulse rules. Great post!
Re: Demilich-- can't believe I forgot those maniacs! Some of the technically proficient, twisted metal of death ever! In case you live under a rock, they've had their entire discog up for d/l for quite some time here:

I have the vinyl!!
Guitars could be heavier, but it's a totally classic record.
cheers - matt
All the death metal you've ever posted here at The Hearse is fucking awesome, I certainly dig.
