Gorgon

French Black Metal band, Gorgon, released their debut album, The Lady Rides a Black Horse, back in 1995. They managed to do so without any prevailing Norse influence. The result is a coal-black ride through primitive lands. It is now Fall, my favorite time of the year, time to dust off this forgotten classic.

Fall in San Francisco is indeed the best. I might even prefer it to winter in the midwest. I am listening to GORGON right now, falling asleep. It is going to be great on the way to work tomorrow. Excellent choice.

How is Fall in San Francisco anyway?

This looks sublimely vicious. Can't wait to listen. I've also been celebrating the coming fall season with unholy black metal.

this band is pretty sick, the drums kind of remind me of gorgoroth's drumming.

"without norse influence"....interesting...there really is a difference between black metal of france, northern, american...

thanks so much, this album fucking rules. its how black metal was supposed to be, before everyone just ripped off transylvanian hunger, pentagram, etc. apparently todestrieb is reissuing it, which is exciting.

p.s. actually one reason i like it so much is that it reminds me somewhat of very early norse black metal, prior to the canonical releases. i'm thinking "wrath of the tyrant," "hordanes land," etc.

Haha, I love fall and tend to go berzerk on black metal this time of year but I gotta say that since I just moved to CA from the upper northeast fall in the bay area is quite a bit warmer than I'm used to. This album is vicious though and I was unfamiliar, so thank you all the same.

Yup, such a classic that no one even remembers it, or is going to care for more than 2 days after hearing it.

Really loving this. Nice chunky wall-o-sound riffs, horror synths, and a bit of shredding leads. Thank you kindly, sir.

The cover looks kinda like the best Yoko Ono performance art-piece that never happened.

The music's pretty rockin too-thanks so much to you and a bunch of other people for showing me that there's more to black metal than CoF.
