This heavyweight bout features two of the finest active crust bands in the world. In one corner we have Hellshock, hailing from Portland, Oregon. In the opposing corner from Takematsu, Japan, Effigy. These bands obviously honed their sparring skills over well-worn copies of Arise!, Rise of the Serpent Men, and In Battle There Is No Law. Both Hellshock and Effigy are worthwhile and crushing, but a winner must be declared. I got to give it to Hellshock, but only by a hair. Almost a draw.
By the way, if you want more Effigy go to our friend In Green Mountain Hell, and check out the extensive post on them.
I appreciate it Aesop.
check out their demo "Ghosts of the Past" if you haven't already
Killer....unfortunately Effigy splitted up. Matsuda (bass) said there is a new band in the works though!
best song on the split is the Poison Idea cover.
I favor "Generals Die In The Bed" the title, the riffs.
The only Hellshock release I have is Shadows Of The Afterworld which is nearly unfuckwithable. Effigy I've never heard. Most appreciated Aesop!
Hellshock are the winners for me too,but Effigy are definitely worthy contenders.
Hey Aesop, what year did this come out?
No release date on the CD, but both bands recorded their share in 2003.
