The Legacy

Testament, some people call them "thrash for girls," but duuuuude, the first two albums kill, okay? Much of the magic of The Legacy is the solo work of Alex Skolnick, the guy writes songs within the songs. Testament were slick and technically proficient from the get go (having cut their teeth under the name of Legacy) and The Legacy is about a strong as a debut album can be. Seriously, even if you thought you didn't care for thrash before, The Legacy could change your mind. Mandatory!!!

Absolutely mandatory!
One of the greatest thrash albums of all time.
I figure they must have gotten the "thrash for girls" tag in the early 90ties when they lost their bite, but which thrash band didn´t? I still spin THE LEGACY and THE NEW ORDER on a regular basis!

AESOP
Thanksa for the post. I admit that as an indie rock dork I was put of by the whole Metallica/Slayer thing, but I should give it another listen , and it is far in the past that guys in Testament tshits shoved me around in high school. After all, I did come to love Death (both the band and the genre). So it is high time for me to dig the Thrash

I don't get the "thrash for girls" thing. From what I've heard of the so-called thrash revival that seems to finally be dying a long-awaited death, most Teastament sounds like "thrash for kids" to me. Thrash without edges. Regardless, The Legacy is a great album. I still have a place in my heart for The New Order, but that's because it was my first exposure to Testament.

I first got this album when my old college radio station was giving away old records they didn't want anymore. For me, this sounded different than other thrash bands I had heard and seemed chaotic yet catchey. Still have the record but haven't listened to it in awhile, thanks for this one!

Never heard the "thrash for girls" bit before. Didn't they do some sort of power ballad on Practice What You Preach?
