This late '80s classic by The Ultramagnetic MC's had a young Kool Keith so far ahead of his time I think this shit went over a lot of the heads of the Hip Hop set. Ultramagnetic, at the time, were the most skilled MCs on the East Coast (and possibly the world) and Critical Beatdown is the proof, and check out their duds on the cover, that is just pure Bronx style dope. I'll take that over that hideous Ed Hardy shit any day.

entertainment ... but very impressive on a Reaganian system
I'm sure little Italy love that, it is so cool walking on the street with bla bla bla
Is it just me but have the comments been really strange lately? Not that I'm complaining.
why ? because you need very cool sounds
I just like girls on this social class
Absolute classic; I don't need to download this one, but anyone who doesn't own a copy should waste no time in doing so.
Change my pitch up. Smack my bitch up.
yeah i need this my copy is battered! Kool keith running rap conventions. More mental case hip hop needed
I first read the first comment on the KPF post yesterday as lyrics, and heard it in the voice of Rob Farmer.
Perhaps it's the ESL readership posting?
"dey rhymes are pathetic, dey think dey copasetic"
made my day. i love kool keith but unfortunately haven't heard very much Ultramagnetic. thanks for thisss shiiiiitt
Holy shit, thanks for upping this. I haven't heard it since high school; a buddy of mine and i would cruise around all day listening to this shit.
I was quite happily listening to this and then...
At the start of 'Moe Lov's Theme'
There is a sample 'Its your life go ahead and live it do what you want etc etc
Thats a British blue eyed soul/funk band from the mid 70's called 'UPP' and the sample is from upp's 1st album on a track where the band drop out leaving the lead singer doing what you hear on the Ultras track.
UPP had a fantastic bass player called Steven Amazing and before upp got their own deal they were Jeff Becks backing band for awhile.
Seems the Ultramagnetic MC's had left no stone unturned in their pursuit of rare samples to use as Upp's album would have been hard to find then.
Obviously its been out on CD in recent times.
Good interesting post..Thanks
I have around 100 unreleased Kool Keith recordings and you don't.
FUCK YES!
Anonymous, thanks for the info, now I need to hear UPP.
Flight.., share that shit.
He swore me to secrecy. I just wish I had accepted his Red Lobster invitations all those times.

I love this super super style
I bought a Saab, a 1990 Turbo!
Doesn't get any better than this. "Ego Trippin" is one of my favorite beats ever created.
i love this album. not only does it hold up much better than most of its peers, it's some of the only Kool Keith stuff that i can stomach i.e. it's not too backpack/white-washed.

Love it. I had this one as a kid but it has since disappeared. Thanks for getting this one back in my computer at least.
Ultramagnetic is totally awesome. Thanks buddy.
Your head is triangle like a mango, somethin' I snack on.
Am I too late? I tried to dl this but it asks for a password. Anyone know how to go around this or a password?
Thanks,
Christy, try it again.
ease back
Fucking great record, I haven't listened to this one in a while. Thanks for posting!
on the production tip look up paul C (RIP), one of the baddest white boys ever.... made the beat for "give the drummer some" plus TONS of other classic later 80's beats....some of the tracks on this album were out as singles as early as 86-87
