I'm a teacher in Korea, so I got some info about Kim Jeong Mi from one of my more Bohemian adult students (in her own words, because they're way more entertaining than mine):
Shin Jung Hyeon was a godfather of Korean Rock. He appeared in 1960's and played his music at the 8th US Armed Forces Unit stationed in Korea. Korean Rock was born from US Army after the Korean War. So in 1960~1970s, the rockers grew up with playing music at the 8th Unit. Kim Chu Ja and Kim Jeong Mi were the two great singers of Shin Jung Hyeon, and were the apples of his eye. Actually Korean people liked KCJ more than KJM because KJM's songs were a little bit psychedelic, it was too early attempt to those days. Besides, KJM was involved in Marijuana case, soo she was not allowed to sing [by the gov't] and she failed comeback any more. These days, Kim Jeong Mi rises a step in a person's opinion, her old albums are rare and very expensive among the manias.
