When I speak of my fondness for this album, or play it for anyone, they look at me like I am high on bottom shelf brandy. Sure the drum machine is cheap sounding and has little to do with what the lilty guitars are doing, and sure mainman Alex Katurgic's vocals sound like a drunken astronaut, and certainly the clumsy song titles like "Oellidal into Penumbral Mirth" probably don't help its case, but Caliginous Romantic Myth is one of those albums that is so weird, so isolated from everything else in the universe that it bears a certain allure. More bizarro outsider art for your jaded earholes.

you had me at "drunken astronaut."
...Thank you so much.
You had me at "bottom shelf brandy."
you had ME with the picture.
anytime I see the words "bizarro", "outsider" and "weird" then I know I have to check it out.
Thanks again for your lovely blog.
you had me at zz top. -jabladav
with a little practice he could potentially achieve a decent facsimile of Dagon from Inquisition perhaps. Those clean chanting vocals though...can't change anything about that, best left untouched. The guitars are a little more creative than the usual wall of sound you get with most one-man black metal acts. Maybe not always in a good way but he's trying. That drum machine though, argh! Lock him in a room with a computer and a copy of Fruity Loops for a month. Only good could come of it.
gimme summa that brandy too then cuz i love it ;]
I don't know where you find this stuff. But I'm glad you do.

Some years ago, I've actually got to listen this at a friend's house, he had the actual cd, etc. The artwork is awesome, albeit a lil too corny, and boy, I sure wasn't prepared to the sound that came out of the speakers.
You see, judging by the first listen, I basically thought it was pure crap, ripped it and took the songs home with me, decided to give it another shot. It fuckin' worked, y'know?
Nowadays, I try to push this as AWESOME BLACK METAL WITH WEIRD VOCALS and people stare back at me like I have some terribly terminal illness.
Now, about the record itself, I find the guitar work pretty original and darn good, if you get past the vocals (or learn to like 'em) it's a pretty decent record.
Too bad the ones that came after ain't that great.
i love this blog for things like this. this album has become one of my favorite earthly things.
