Listen To My Band

Here's my band, Ludicra and our first album Hollow Psalms. It was recorded in 2000, released in 2002 by Life Is Abuse, and is now out of print. I play drums, and I drew the cover, and the obligatory illegible logo. The digipack was designed to open backwards making it like a book. Bassist Ross Sewage hand calligraphed all the lyrics and info and did some excellent woodcut illustrations that you will never see because you can't get this. Seeing how this CD fetches up to $45,000,000 on eBay, and people are always asking me for copies, I figured I should probably put it up here. Since Hollow Psalms, we released two more full lengths through Alternative Tentacles and an EP through Life Is Abuse. All those are readily available so I suggest you stop dicking around here and buy them up, they are vastly superior to this recording, and someday will fetch gazillions of dollars on eBay.

Great debut. Bought this shit after someone told me it was the drummer from hickey, but boy was I pleasantly surprised when it was a black (or 'grey' metal) rather than a hickey rehash.

bought this when someone told me it had the aesop from hickey...but boy was i pleasantly surpised to hear a black (or 'grey') metal recording rather than a hickey rehash.

I found this in the used CD section of Generation Records in NYC a few years ago. Scooped it right up. People inexplicably dump some really great shit off there. I scored the first three Today is the Day albums before any were re-issued and while the old AmRep versions were tough as nails to find.

i've been really into your band since i heard one of your tracks on an AT comp... great music

Aesop said...

So people leave more comments if it's my own band? Weird. To the dude who asked about the EP..

You're too modest, Aesop. Ludicra rules, so of course people are going to leave comments!

Aesop said...

I have never been accused of being too modest. I'm sure those who know me well will find it amusing.

I didn't know that the owner of this blog plays for Ludicra and Agalloch.

Awesome dude.

Aesop said...

Indeed I do.

Mr. Svartsoy, thanks. Sam Gopal, Graves At Sea? Great start keep it up.

You are too modest about this album. I bought it when it came out, and it still sits right next to my cd player. Userpent is one of my favorite songs ever. Fucking great.

Aesop said...

Userpent is a great song, and a fan favorite. Here's a pretty good video of us playing it at Gilman Street some years ago...

Ludicra is one of my absolutely favourite bands I want to have CD AND vinyl versions from. (Category Magma, Neurosis, etc.) AND you also played in Grinch, Aesop. Another band too brilliant for most people to notice apparently.

PS: Now I know why all my previous posts didn't show up. (I forgot about the word verification because the comment box is so little on my screen...)

Aesop said...

Thanks, DiNo. All Ludicra material is available on vinyl except for this one, but it's in the works. I'm surprised you know about Grinch but I was really only in the band for a 5 week tour.

i bought mine at Amoeba
all the rest i got from Scott
at shows
you guys fuckin shred and u know i'm at every local show headbangin like a fool
i have to thank Anthena Kautsh and jeff 'whiplash' Robinson of 'Short, Fast and Loud' magazine for doing an interview with you guys and i hunted down Hollow Psalms (by hunting i mean i hoped on the 22 fillmore, then transfered to the '7 Haight')
needless to say i was hooked...
keep up the great blog, love how u mix it up and dont abide to any specific 'type' of music
i am waiting for the new record (what gives man?) but i'd rather wait 2 years and get 5 incredible songs than 11 average ones every year like some lame ass commercial crap that is pumed out to the mtv driven, douche bags out there

ok thats my rant

a friend is recommending me Ludicra for almost two years now, 'bout time I get around listening something.
My poor wallet, aesop, do you know where I can find a distro carrying Ludicra cds?

time for me to shamefully confess I had never checked you guys out... ok, not completely true, I think I heard one of the AT releases at a friends' place once... but much as you might (as many bands do) knock it as yer first effort, I'm enjoying it a lot so far. thanks yet again.

HAY AESOP I HAD THESE TUNES ON 8-TRACK FROM WHEN I CLANDESTINELY RECORDED YOU GUYS IN YOUR REHEARSAL SPACE MILLIONS OF YEARS BEFORE THE DAWN OF HISTORY.

Actually I didn't catch on before I read Aversionline's review of Another Great Love Song but hey. Fantastic band, I have loved everything I have heard yet and I'm sure this old fucker will hit the spot too.

Aesop said...

tis true, Nano is at every show, in front, and banging. The guy is a ruler!

Nano, we agree, quality over quantity. We have enough new songs to record another album but we're waiting to work out some more stuff. I think we'll have something out befor 09 is half over.

Mark, you are a rockstar, and in a way, if not for you and your good influence over my listening habits as a teenage Floridian punk Ludicra would not exist. You hipped me to Amebix ferchrissakes!!!

Dave G said...

Hey everyone if you like aesops band then support the man. I just bought my copy for $9.00 shipping included...great deal for a limited white vinyl release with a screenprinted b-side.

Aesop said...

Thanks, Dave. Life Is Abuse deserves support as well, great label. Never released anything I didn't love.

I didn't know you guys did this lay out yourself. I used to rave about the design to people all the time when I first got this album!

Aesop said...

Ross and I together make for one capable designer.

Anonymous said...

i got my compact dicks version, but make a vinyl, make a vinyl

hey dino, it's "Pat from Deerfield" !

Aesop said...

It's a c-hair too long for a 12" but we're brainstorming about how to make it work. Perhaps a double 10" but that means it will be pricey.

Steven said...

Thanks dude. As it would happen, I've already bought AGLS and FELO. Rock on.

Anonymous said...

Hi 'Pat from Deerfield', I don't think I'm the DiNo you think I am (I'm from Belgium actually).

Anonymous said...

hey dino. sorry.
i made the assumption that you were DiNo from Asunder.

i wonder if a 12" and a 7" would be cheaper than 2 10" - are 10'ers harder to produce cuz thery're "RARE" ? anyway, I have all the others on vinyl - it'd be cool to have the debut.

Aesop said...

pd, you also assumed Dino from Asunder can read and write. LOL.

Looks like it will be a double 12" with extra tracks (probably live) or one of 4 sides left blank or screenprinted. We hope to have this done before our 10th anniversary show on Halloween but kind of hinges on the label.

ludicra rules! thanks for following my blog. if you ever need help seting up a show in new york, please contact me

Aesop said...

Ahh, well your blog is great. Krallice, Fen... obviously you are a man of taste and distinction.

I've really enjoyed the songs posted on the LUDICRA myspace. So I'm really looking forward to giving this a listen. Thanks for posting this and for putting so much work and insight into the blog. Its a great resource.

i love Ludicra.."Userpent" has always been my fave, but "Why Conquer?" is def. one a my absolutely favorite songs ever by anyone..i just read an interview with Gary Holt where he talks about liking a great band from the Bay with 2 girls in it,and i guess the interviewer hadnt heard of the band and heard it different cuz it says "Luna Crow" in the interview hahaha
(its an Exodus interview at voicesfromthedarkside.de)

Aesop said...

That rules. I heard he did a TV interview where he referred to us as an all girl band. Yeah, he's a nice dude.

DEMO DEMO DEMO.

Aesop said...

What do you mean, Mr. Handy?

Anonymous said...

please post the ludicra demo tape.
or the dr. dre-del stuff.
so good.

Aesop said...

Ahhhh, the Ludicra demo is the same as this album.

Anonymous said...

That is a great album. The cover would make for some good patches and back patches. It reminds me of fog rolling in out there by the cliff house or at West Portal station. I'm going to sell mine and move back...

Daniel said...

Ya ,that scream in Userpent kills(the songs not to shabby either.). Are you guys coming through Austin,Texas on your next tour? If so I'd like to buy ya' a drink or 2 or 3 for all the righteous shit I've gotten from you. Diggin' your band.

Aesop said...

Thanks, Daniel. We probably won't make Texas this spring but we have a lot of travel plans for 2010 so...

"$45,000,000 on eBay"

Your joke grows truer every year. Or would, but it apparently can’t be got for any price. I should have thought to look here; thank you so much for hosting this, though I will still look to purchase a flac/cd version.

And in light of it’s demise, I just gotta say how much I love this band's catalogue. I wanted to say that especially cause I was thinking of comments Don Anderson made in reply to a Sculptured retrospective at IO; I hope the people that make these albums know how much they still get spun.
