Chronaexus

Chronaexus are a fairly new Black Metal band hailing from Sacramento, California. This year they managed to squeeze out a pretty impressive debut album called Algedonic Awakening, even cooler is the fact that they were quite open to sharing it here on the Hearse. Algedonic Awakening brings to mind the second wave of Euro Black Metal bands with its swirling keys and towering atmosphere, I am reminded of ...And Oceans, and Admiron Black-era Gehenna. Now I know these guys play live, but the drums on this recording sound artificial, however it doesn't really detract from the experience for me. Can't help but feel that their next outing will absolutely rule.

I keep trying to think of something to say other than simply "Hey, this is pretty fucking awesome," but, really, I think that suffices. Good stuff.

I grew up with the drummer, that recorded on this album at least, he sucks.

Their new album, "A Tempest of Reticence," is available for free download on last.fm . And it's a lot better than Algedonic Awakening. The cheesy keyboards and sloppy drums are gone, it's straight grim.

Actually, Anonymous, the drums are programmed through a machine. You must be a cyborg.

nice to hear that not everyone's forgotten about keyboards!

Yeah, I don't think anything more than "this is great" is necessary.

I saw these dudes play in a forest in Aptos (outside of Santa Cruz) on a stage lit by candles (which caught on fire during their set!) and the singer didn't even bother with the PA, just howled at the night. They were playing with Endless Rain in Fall, and they had a drummer who killed, but I think may have been on loan from the other band? Anyway, brutal, beautiful, psyched to check out the album.

@ jjthemick: whoa! sounds awesome and uber kvlt. i sincerely mean that.

aesop: i have been just browsing all the stuff tagged "black metal" while i am bored here at work and needless to say, the comments are fascinating and entertaining. i especially enjoyed the graveland debate. fucking awesome and very lively and civil and eloquent; that goes for all parties involved.

anyways i am a regular reader/downloader (and friend of yours on fb! :p) so just wanted to say thanks and cheers and hello. i comment from time to time but the winter and rain has put me in a black metal mood so i figured i'd scour some old posts while wasting time. thanks again for the best blog around.
