Wreckage In Flesh

Dr. Know's thrash album, and it is good, really good. Sort of like a punkier Megadeth or a more metallic Cro-Mags. Songs are well arranged and full of memorable riffs. Production is typical late 80's thrash (Bill Metoyer). I loved this album when it came out in 1988 and I love it still. Kyle Toucher is Dr.Know as far as I am concerned. His great voice and Tom G. guitar tones just rule, and anyone who saw them around 1986 during their whole ponchos and bandolier trip knows what a truly cool band they were. But that cover, what were they thinking?

I been grabbin crazy amounts of stuff from here since Hammers of Misfortune made a myspace bulletin about your site...it is most excellent....it looks like only half of this album got put up, though....is that right?

It is the entire album. If you are confused by the track numbers it is because it was lifted from a cdr that had other stuff before it. Looks like I owe the Hammers a beer.

Right on my man - was listening to this yesterday & thinking this is probably my favourite metal album - basically a toss-up between this & Raw Power's Mine to Kill although thinking about it, I think Wreckage wins.... I really prefer the punk/HC version of metal coz you just get all the good & none of the bad. Also have this on vinyl since it came out but no turntable & the rip I had was sans the Sabbath cover so cheers. If I had a criticism of this album its that the drumming, while solid and quite good, gets a little one dimensional at times. Seem to remember on the credits Kyle thanking the drummer for playing on this so I guess he was pulled in at the last minute or something.... probably my favourite sabbath cover as well & there's plenty of good ones out there. Anyway if there's a better half an album of metal than side 2 of this album, let me know what it is.

well you can imagine my suprise etc... your rip doesn't have the sabbath cover either... is this some sort of weird conspiracy to fuck with my head? unlikely.... do you have the sabbath cover? Do you have RP's Mine to Kill (while I'm at it)? Having been through your blog ( which I hadn't previously) you probably think my previous comments on metal are horseshit... oh well. I guess that's why I was a punk & not a metalhead. Speaking of metal.... have you heard Blood Duster's Str8 outa Northcote album? It's pretty good. Can post it if you interested.

I believe that their was a cd version of this album and Burn without the Sab cover, and this rip was from that cd. I too have the vinyl, let me see if I can correct this. I don't have that Raw Power record you speak of, they lost me after 'Screams..' but maybe I need to rethink the whole matter. Thanks for commenting, It's the best way for people to let me know that they are digging this.

Yeah I read all the time that RP had "2 good albums.... etc" & I know where its coming from with After Your Brain (which I loved at the time but on recent listenings doesn't seem to stack up quite the way it did) & I haven't heard their really recent stuff but to my ears, Mine to Kill is a classic (like a cross between The Accused & Battalion of Saints or something) although slightly let down by the production. If anyone ever gets around to remastering this album it will be unfknblvabl. Now in my excitement yesterday after commenting etc.... I went to the Dr Know page (on myspace I think) and they are currently playing and recording etc without Kyle (which gives you an idea of how much a part of the "scene" I am these days). In fact with no original members although I guess Brandon counts as 'early on'. Now I agree with you - Dr. Know WAS Kyle. So what's the story? I see in the band history that Brandon & Kyle "weren't seeing eye to eye about reforming" or some such and then that this is the "most powerful punk version of Dr Know ever..." - but it isn't Dr. Know, is it? It's like that joke of DK's without Jello.... they weren't the DK's either! What are these arseholes thinking? If the music is that good, get a new name & let the music live or die by itself you fuckers.... Am I missing the point? Should we not care about these things? Is any kind of prostitution ok when in search of your 15 minutes? I'll shut up now. Well almost - I'm an aussie and the word verification is gdayqrcr - thats funny.

I interviewed Brandon last year when the reformed Dr. Know came to Hawaii and he explained the whole lineup changes and whatnot. Basically, what it boils down to is that Brandon was the first singer; Kyle was the better one.

Finally, what's up Aesop? I like your site.

Hi, Dean, glad you are enjoying the ride. Here's what I know... Dr. Know was formed by Brandon, Kyle and Ismael. At some point Brandon quit and the band forged on as a trio. This was when Dr. Know was truly special. Many of my friends and I often reminesce about seeing this line-up in '86 when they had a whole "Motorhead Ace of Spades spaghetti western poncho" look. Kyle is now a successful FX guy who worked on some of those Star Trek offshoots. When the idea of reforming Dr. Know came up, he was uninterested. I saw the new (old) line-up around '99 and while they were good, they were not great. Kyle's voice and guitar tone made Dr. Know a cut above the other nardcore bands. Hence my stance "No Kyle, No Know"
