Dino-Metal

It's cool when readers send in their band's stuff to be included in the Hearse, especially when it's good. Such is the case with Shelby's band Cretaceous. Cretaceous do what should have been fucking obvious to everyone from day one, play primitive metal about goddamn dinosaurs. I mean, what could be a more perfect union than thundering prehistoric lizards and thundering prehistoric riffs? Also of note is the fact that Mike (ex Scurvy Dogs, ex Phantom Limbs) plays drums and drew that excellent cover of the San Francisco skyline overrun by dinosaurs as panic-stricken headbangers look on. As for the music, it's sort of crusty punky early Death Metal. Think Autopsy and old Carcass meeting up to write a paper on raptors. Oh, and some amazing song titles like "Terrordactyl" and "Megaladon of the Dead." Thanks, Shelby. Your band is killer.

Can anyone help Troy convert M4as to Mp3s?

He needs to hear this demo.

Why don't I get cool shit like this sent to me??! It's always half-baked stoner bullshit or irony-laced alt. rock (even after I mentioned "if you count Ween or REM among your influences, FUCK OFF!!"). Regardless, very cool idea, and I concur that it shoulda been so fucking obvious, 1000's of bands shoulda been penning odes to thee Allosaurus by now.

If you like this, you'll definitely be stoked on Tarpit. Dinosaur-themed doom/sludge from Maryland. I think Amoeba still has some copies of the LP.

Allosaurus? ok... but what about Ankylosaurus???? any creature with a mace for a tail and a back covered in spikes is just about as badass as it gets in my book ;)

thanks as usual, to both Shelby and Aesop, for bringin us this slice. killer indeed.

Damn, I wish I had a mace for a tail.

In my humble opinion, the most metal dinosaurs would have to be Sarcosuchus, Spinosaurus Aegypticus, and the mighty Carnotaurus sastreii. Google 'em.

Actually, I take that back. Sarcosuchus was a giant crocodile, meaning it walked with its legs splayed out to the side, rendering it unclassifiable as a dinosaur (dinosaurs, by definition walk with their legs directly underneath them). A foolish mistake on my part. But look at the size of the jaws on that thing! Brutal.

great concept:dinosaurs are great, metal is great,so you can't go wrong with these two elements.i am eager to give this a listen.

Dino-Metal? Now how cool is that? ;) And then read something about the Allosaurus and Ankylosaurus? And don't forget the Pterodactylus on the cover - death from above! ;)

Close runners up: Irritator challengeri and Stygimoloch spiniferi. (Stygimoloch= "Horned devil from the river of Death"). Metal indeed.

Thanks Aesop,I've tried everything within my computers power to convert these.I even went to Staples and looked at audio conversion software.I found 1 by Cakewalk for $40.00 bucks and I can't afford it yet and I'm not sure it would even work. Can you play Mp3's on realplayer cuz if you can I would use that instead of WMP. I tried Limewire but that is getting me nowhere.Lokking for something cheap and easy....................Troy

Damn, Shelby knows his dinosaurs.

but i realy had taken for granted the Bay Area
when i had left (in 1983, got back in 91) Mabuhay Gardeens was still kickin as well as The Stone on Broadway, Ruthies, and The Farm,
now a days its soo awesom to get that same feeling of closeness with such incredible bands and people!!!

I can never understand fucking lyrics. I like this record a LOT. All I've heard so far is, "A long time a-goooo!" This one would be fun to read lyrics along with... Okay, this is what I hear for "Tsunami Blood":

"Dead bugs looking at the guy
Look at all the flies look at all their eyes

Snow peas
Snow pee blood (This HAS to be Tsunami Blood !!”)

There is humorous league
Soperific humorous league
The ocean is trampling in his pudding
The ocean breeze popping up fish
Guaranteed on the road
Hence he’s overcost coat is old
Human hoods human breed
Oy, Bobby’s puttin’ his voice folder in me..."

I wish I were hearing something more than the Crazy Person's First Reader. I really wish I were hearing about dinosaurs even though my favorite one no longer doesn't exist (Brontosaurus, the mythical brontosaurus) (sp?). And I alway love the evil bat/wart hog octave singing.
